East Fremantle Junior Football Club Y12s have won the 2014 Southern Conference Grand Final at Shark Park this afternoon, defeating Melville by nine points in a close contest.  Final Score: East Fremantle 10.6.66 defeated Melville 9.3.57 The coin toss was won by Melville and they elected to kick to the western end of Shark Park. The ball was bounced to start the game, and within a minute Melville had kicked the first goal of the game. The Power answered almost immediately to even up the scores, and the two teams continued to trade goals in an open and end to end contest. Both teams were shooting straight, and the score at the end of the first quarter was EFJFC 3.0.18 to Melville 4.0.24 The second quarter ascendency belonged to the Power, with the majority of play in their forward half. However Melville were very effecient, and accurate, on their forays forward, and this kept the contest tight. Half-time score saw EFJFC holding a slender three point lead: EFJFC 6.3.39 to Melville 6.0.36 Things tightened up in the third quarter, and the free flowing play from the first half was nowhere to be seen. The ball travelled back and forth between the 50m arcs, with both teams finding it hard to hit the scoreboard. The only goal of the quarter, saw the Power extend their lead to six points at the last break: EFJFC 7.3.45 to Melville 6.3.39 The Power came out hard in the last quarter, and kicked the all important first goal. This was followed by two more goals, to make it three in a row for the quarter, and coupled with a few behinds, took their lead to beyond four goals. However, with ten minutes still to play there was enough time on the clock if Melville were good enough. To their credit, they came hard, kicking the last three goals of the match, but time ran out for them. The Power hung on for a well deserved victory, in a great contest.  Jordy Biondillo was voted Best on Ground. More Photos
